The Agricultural Productivity Program in West Africa, Mali (WAAPP-Mali) has donated 198 tons of certified seeds and food to affected populations conjecturels villages Toungounba and Diagounté in the town located about Sadiola 70 km from Kayes (border region of Senegal).
The donation, consisting of rice seeds, corn, sorghum, groundnut and cowpea, was presented on July 7, 2016 by the administrative and municipal authorities in the presence of notables from the two villages, the National Coordinator of WAAPP, Dr. Aly Kouriba accompanied by Mr. Siaka Fofana, National Director of Agriculture. The beneficiaries of this donation were victims of last April 6 fire disaster that destroyed the stock of food and seeds they stored for planting and eating.
PPAAO-Mali made the humanitarian gesture to relieve the suffering of people and help them regain their productive capacity. As a reminder, it should be noted that the WAAPP-Mali has included in its 2016 work program, the distribution of 4,200 tons of dry cereal certified seeds and legumes against 1800 tons in 2015. The use of certified seeds contributed to 30% improvement of agricultural productivity last season.
